MacroBank vs MyFitnessPal

Two very different ideas of what a food tracker is for. An honest comparison, checked September 2026.

The short version

MyFitnessPal is the biggest food tracker there is, built around a daily calorie goal and a very large food database. MacroBank is a macro tracking app built around a weekly budget for protein, carbs and fat, with no calorie counting at all. If MyFitnessPal works for you, keep it. If it has started to feel like a test you sit every night, MacroBank is the other way of doing this.

Pick MyFitnessPal if

You want the largest possible food database, you like seeing a calorie number, you need Android or web today, or you are happy with the free tier and its ads. It is a mature product with more integrations than any macro-first app.

Pick MacroBank if

You want to track protein, carbs and fat and nothing else. You eat differently on different days and do not want each one graded. You have quit a daily tracker before because one heavy day made the whole thing feel pointless. Or you simply want barcode and photo logging without paying for a Premium tier.

Switching from MyFitnessPal

Bring your targets

If you already know your daily macros, enter them and MacroBank turns them into a weekly budget. If you would rather start clean, the calculator builds targets from seven inputs and documents the method under The Science.

Rebuild your regulars in a day

Scan the barcodes on the packaged foods you eat most, then save each recurring meal once. From then on it is one tap to log.

Expect the first week to feel strange

There is no daily verdict. The number that matters is what is left for the week, and the daily average is only a guide. Most people stop looking for the red number by Friday.

Try the weekly way for a week.
